This magazine loader is one of those items that I’ve actually owned for a few years now, but people are always surprised when they see it in action. I would have thought this amazing little mag loader/unloader would be more popular by now but nobody seems to know about it. I’m here to fix that.
Introducing the Butler Creek LULA – the best damn loader I’ve ever used. I have one for AR .223/5.56 mags and had one for AK mags too until I sold my AK. Made in Israel, the device is simple – it has clips to catch onto your magazine while loading, and has a collapsible handle so that you can put it away without fear of breaking it, despite being made of pretty heavy-duty polymer. It’s durable too – mine has been tossed into my range bag and hung from the outside of my rifle case, banged around and dropped, for years without any issues.
The way it works is simple:
- Put it over your magazine until it clicks into place
- Place base of magazine against your belly (the easiest way)
- Toggle the handle so that it pushes down your magazine follower
- drop a round in (literally – no resistance!)
- toggle the handle to the other direction to push down the top round
- drop in your next round
- keep toggling and inserting rounds until the magazine is fully loaded
That’s it! What is just as cool is that you can use it to unload your mags super quickly by simply making sure the opening for rounds is facing down and rapidly toggling the handle to drop the rounds.
This simple tool is excellent for what it is – a super fast loader and unloaded. It’ll save your thumbs and your feed lips since you aren’t shoving rounds into your mags anymore. Unless you are using stripper clips, you aren’t going to find a faster way to load up. I usually go a lot faster than in the short demo video above. You do need one for each caliber you use, but they do have a decent selection of calibers to choose from.
